Winter Weekend

Last weekend, we headed up to Schroon Lake, NY for a little getaway.  My husband and kids wanted to do a bit of snowmobiling and I reluctantly joined them.  I am so over this winter.  Not sure if it is that I am getting older or what, but I have just felt cold.  For months.  I want spring and warmer weather.  However, the Adirondack Mountains worked their magic and I was reminded how beautiful winter can be.

I love this house that sits on a mountain overlooking the lake.  Can't you just imagine sitting on that porch and watching the sunset?
I also love this little red house along the snowmobile trail.  The red siding really pops in the snow.
Our dogs love the snow.  We brought Keeper home in a blizzard and I think it reminds her of being a puppy.  Even Forrest, who is 9, acts like a puppy in the snow.
I love this old barn and drive by it every time we are upstate.  It has a gorgeous mountain view.
Check out the huge icicle on the side of this home!  They have had a historically cold winter in the Adirondacks this year.
Here is the other side of the same house.  Love that porch and their view.
Back at our house, the guys spent at least half of the weekend trying to get a broken snowmobile started.  They were determined, but unsuccessful.  That will be a project to work on in the warmer months.
My youngest boy, 9, spent hours (hours!) jumping off the deck into the deep snow.  He looked like he was jumping into a pool.
Because it was so cold, the snow was fluffy powder so there were no hard landings.
Can you tell I have been the mom of boys for going on 17 years now?  Instead of telling them "no, you might hurt yourself!", I grab my camera.  If you can't beat 'em, join 'em (within reason, of course).  That's my motto.
We tried to take a family selfie.  But the sun was in our eyes and we weren't all in the picture.  Oh well...
I think, maybe, we can all learn a thing or two from our dog, Forrest, about posing for selfies.  He has it down pat.  Now, if only I could manage to get both of us in the picture next time:)
Thanks for the reminder of your beauty, Winter!  Now, I am ready to bid you a fond farewell and welcome Spring.

  2. Courtney, I am so sick of winter, but your photos I can really appreciate. You know why? Because you had the CHOICE of going to where winter was, not being immersed in it (although you probably are, just like us). You've got some great shots. I love the ones of your son jumping in the banks of snow. Those buildings in their settings are everything you say - just gorgeous.

  4. Your posts always put a smile on my face and that scenery is so gorgeous, I almost forgot how sick of winter I am!! It really does look beautiful up there. I always say that I am a summer/beach person but there is just something so beautiful and cozy about the mountains that I just adore. Your family is just precious and I love how you have adjusted so well to being a mom to boys. I am still in the "you're going to get hurt" mode but I really need to relax and let them be boys. Thanks for the reminder! I hope you have a wonderful weekend - we turn back the clocks tonight - yay...I love having more light in the evening. Spring is coming...

    1. Thanks Shelley! I think I was destined to be a mom of boys :) I was always a tomboy myself. But it still is hard for me at times as well worrying about them. I think worrying is just part of a mom’s job description. I am so excited about changing the clock. Can’t wait for Spring! Hope you have a great weekend too.

  5. Courtney,
The pics of your week end up north are so great. Love the doggies and their coats and hat. Tooo sweet. It looks like a great week end. We are finally warming up here in Chicago land so that is good news. I hope it means we have turned a corner on winter and Spring is going to arrive.

  7. Courtney....I Love & enjoy all your posts but especially the ones with Schroon Lake. I've been going to Schroon Lake since I was a young girl. It has a special place in my heart! Its almost 10 years since I've last visited. The Adirondacks have such gorgeous views & scenery. I get excited when I see your pictures or you talk about Schroon Lake. My Friends say this has been a brutal winter but I thank you for showing the fun part of playing in the snow.

So now I know :) I think Schroon Lake is the kind of place that stays in your heart forever. I hope you get back there someday and until then I will keep sharing pictures of our favorite place.
