A New Rug, Easter & More

Hello friends and Happy {almost} April!  Today I am sharing a few odds and ends of what we've been up to behind the scenes around here. This always seems to be such a busy time of year and we are looking forward to Spring Break in a few weeks.  Our schools scheduled spring break for later than usual this year.  We celebrated Easter with a brunch at our house before Billy had to get to work for the evening shift.  My son's girlfriend brought me this big basket of lovely tulips and I wish they would last forever.  You will see them a few times in this post because I keep moving them around the house to enjoy them while their blooms last.

Spring Home Tour

Happy Spring!  Is there anything better than opening your windows on those first few warm days in early spring?  You can just smell the freshness filling the house as it pushes out all of the winter stuffiness.  For today's Farmhouse Friday, some of my favorite bloggers and I are teaming up with Country Living to share our Spring home tours.  Please be sure to check out the links to other beautiful homes at the end of this post for tons more inspiration for adding spring touches to your home.

Easy Spring Naked Cake Made Using Boxed Cake Mix & Grocery Store Flowers

Easy Spring Naked Cake Made Using Boxed Cake Mix & Grocery Store Flowers -
Today, I am sharing the simplest cake ever.  I recently spent an hour on Pinterest looking at pictures of naked cakes.  I am not sure just how long this trend has been around but it fascinated me, not only because they are pretty to look at, but because I love the idea of a less fussy cake and less frosting.  We are not fans of overly sweet cake and this seemed like just the right amount of frosting.  So I set about making my own version of a naked cake to use in pictures for our Spring Home Tour (which I will be sharing tomorrow!).

Touches of Spring in the Mudroom

Spring decor in Ikea hack mudroom -
Just the other day I gave our mudroom a good spring cleaning.  I moved all of our heavy winter coats and boots to the front hall closet and went through all of the mudroom baskets.  You would be surprised at the miscellaneous stuff I find crammed into those baskets.  No, actually those of you with kids wouldn't be surprised at all ;)

Blue & White Master Bedroom

Do you have a color combination in your home decor that you keep coming back to again and again? For me, that combo is blue and white.

I like to experiment with other colors, and even neutrals, but there is nothing like varying shades of blue and white for me.  It is my home decor comfort zone.

DIY Lumbar Pillow

Easy DIY lumbar pillow made from an Ikea throw rug -
It's no secret that I love a good Ikea hack!  So I always have my eyes open for new ideas for using Ikea products in a unique and personal way.  Today, I am sharing a simple little project I completed recently.  I have been searching for a long lumbar pillow for our living room sofa.  Although I found many with the look I wanted, I couldn't find one with the price I wanted.  So I gave up.  However, on a recent trip to Ikea, I spotted the striped Signe throw rugs in a bin for $3.99.  One happened to be folded to look just like a lumbar pillow.  And it just happened to be the neutral stripes I had been looking for to add to our living room.  My sewing skills are definitely lacking, but I thought I could figure out a way to make it work.  I grabbed 2 rugs and added them to my cart.

Adirondack Winter

Red barn in winter in Keene, NY -
It has been such an unusual winter this year.  Not much snow and not much cold left it all feeling a bit odd.  But still so beautiful.  The picture above is an abandoned barn on the side of a main road in Keene, NY.  It is slated to be torn down soon and it will be greatly missed.  I have read that this barn just may be the most photographed thing in the Adirondacks.
