Spring Family Room

Family Room with leather sofa with quilt-www.goldenboysandme.com
Welcome to our spring family room.  This is the lower level room in our split level home.  I made a few changes to lighten things up in our family room for spring.  I like this room to feel warm and homey whatever the season.  I added a quilt (from Marshalls last year) and some new throw pillows to the sofa.  Over on the mantel, I added a window pane mirror that I had in my basement and painted the letters to make up the word "bloom" with spring green craft paint.

I made another topiary with a  Target dollar spot moss covered bunny.  The "Happy Easter" banner was bought on clearance after last Easter.

I am so glad we decided to paint that wall unit white!  Sometimes, I regret painting furniture, but this large piece is just so much easier to work with in white.  I have my eye on that black console table next. Not sure whether we will paint it or replace it with something else.  Billy has been thinking about building some furniture and this might be the perfect piece to start with.  First, he needs to find some free time :)

This is the most traditional space in our home, but I like to mix things up with a variety of pillows in different pattern and prints. All of the pillows in the picture below we already had.  The Barley Flour pillow cover is from H&M.com and the rest are from HomeGoods.

I get asked about these shelves every time I post a picture of them.  The shelves themselves are floating shelves we purchased at Target.  Despite installing them properly with anchors, they couldn't hold much weight on them.  If I have shelves, I need to be able to put books and knick-knacks, or what is the point of having shelves?!  So, we bought these Ekby brackets at Ikea (you can still find them in the shelving department there) and installed them under the shelves for support. Problem solved and I like the look of the brackets.

I haven't completely changed out the winter gallery wall yet, although I did remove the red sweater deer head soon after Christmas.  I replaced the deer head with some antlers.  We also brought this round table up from our basement to do puzzles and art projects on during the colder winter months when we are stuck inside.

Tomorrow, I will be sharing some pictures of our kitchen, which is just a few stairs up from our family room.  Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Thanks Linda! I got the idea for those stair numbers a few years back from Sarah Richardson’s show and I still love them. Have a great day!

  3. Your family room looks great and ready for Spring. I just saw a post by Sarah Richardson on fb today and she was saying how adding a small table and chairs to a family room really expands the use. Yours looks lovely there. We are currently making plans to cut down an extra farmhouse table to make it narrower. We will be using it in the office end of our family room for our desktop computer and other activities.

    1. Thanks Elizabeth! We are really enjoying that little table in the family room. I thought I would put it away once the warmer weather hits, but now I am not sure. It has been so useful. Your plan to cut down a farmhouse table sounds lovely and I think you will love having it there. Have a great week!

  6. I love how pillows take a room from season to season...these are so pretty and I love the quilt. I think I have a SPRING banner from last year downstairs..have to look. I sort of wait until after St. Paddy's Day to do spring. I'm also loving your bunnies and that awesome coffee table...I always find something I like in pictures of your home!!

  7. I noticed you have lamps in the middle of the room. Do you run their cords under the rug/couch and to a wall outlet? I'd love to have some better lighting in the middle of my living room, but I'm waiting until we put in our wood floors so I can run cords under a rug somehow.
