An Autumn Picnic

On a beautiful fall Saturday in the Adrondacks, Matthew (my 9 year old) and I decided to set out on a picnic.  We had picked up this green plaid metal picnic basket at a local sale.  It was a bit rusty, but the wooden handles won me over.  We brought it home, grabbed a few snacks and headed down our favorite trail.

This year is the prettiest fall I have seen in years.  Or maybe we just happened to be upstate on just the right days this year.

Matty brought his camera too.

Billy and Forrest came along.  Keeper came too, but she doesn't enjoy sitting still to have her picture taken like Forrest does.

This is what the trees looked like just above our heads.

And I realized that the $6 we spent on an old rusty plaid picnic basket was the best money we've spent in a long time.  We should remember to take more time for picnics.

  1. Just beautiful........... making precious memories with family!!! Many memories come back to me every single time I look up at the storage in my Mom's garage and there sits a Large picnic basket that has packed up many a delicious "Picnic style Meal" for our family when I was growing up right on up to my own children grabbing a snack out of that old family friend!!!!!!!

  4. Looks so beautiful. We always go up to Cold Spring, NY for Octoberfest and have dinner at the Depot. It's been really a beautiful fall in New Jersey so far. Things are starting to change more now. You have a beautiful family.
