The brightest spot of 2020 has been our rustic cabin in the woods. We spent a good part of the summer working on this little house, turning it more and more into our home away from home. Truth be told, this place feels even more like home than our home in NJ. We live with less here. There is just one small bathroom, no dishwasher or clothes washer, but the nature right outside the door makes up for all of that. And then some.

Fall in the Adirondacks 2019
I'm not really sure what it is I love most about fall. The colors? Definitely a big part of it. The smells? Nothing smells quite like the leaves on the ground during this season. But I think what intrigues me most about this season is the bittersweet change in the weather. The signal for a cozier time of year which is music to this homebody's ears.
These pictures were taken across the span of about 3 weeks from late September into mid-October. We follow the color as it changes first in the higher elevations and finally ends down by the lake. It was sad to leave this weekend because the next time we head up up there, the trees will be bare. I can't remember a prettier fall than we saw this year.

Fall This & That - A Season of Change
Happy Weekend, friends! There have been lots of changes happening around here and today I thought I would pop on share some updates to our home - and beyond. I have been on the hunt for the perfect farmhouse table for our family for a while now. I think the table that we eat at - do homework at - play at - is such an import element to any home. I am thrilled to finally have a table that seems to suit our taste for the long haul. Nothing trendy, just classic design.

Some Fall Inspiration
Have you already begun decorating for fall? We have been enjoying a crisp and cool weekend in the mountains, including a fire in the fireplace, and I am (finally) ready to get started when I get home. But I like to look back at some of my old pictures of both foliage and decor for inspiration first.
Nature is always my inspiration for all things so I can't imagine my fall decor not including at least a touch of orange, like this tree by the creek just down the road from our family's cabin in the mountains.

Autumn in Vermont 2017
Hello friends and Happy November. Today is the day that everything magically turns to Christmas in blogland. Ha! Not ready for that yet so I thought I would pop in to share some pictures of a recent quick trip we took to Vermont. It has been an odd fall foliage wise, for sure. But the tradeoff has been some amazing warm temperatures throughout September and October so I am not complaining. On this trip, we visited southern Vermont, an area that is farther to reach from our cabin in the Adirondacks. Billy and I escaped for a couple of days with Dax. We had a blast.
Ever since I first saw a picture of Sleepy Hollow Farm in Woodstock on Pinterest a few years back, I knew I had to experience it for myself. It certainly did not disappoint. It's definitely the stuff Vermont dreams are made of. I read stories of traffic jams and rude people during peak fall season on the road above the farm on the internet. Fortunately, it was just us, as the foliage was past peak. Dax and I spent a few minutes dreaming about what it would be like to live in this setting.
Quite frankly, this area is a bit too upscale for our taste to live in but it was a lovely place to visit. We also came across a covered bridge in Weathersfield that made up for all of the lackluster leaf color.

This village had me at their library. Seriously, can you imagine this being your local library??
I have always dreamed of visiting Vermont in the fall and we will definitely be back next year. Thanks for living up to all the hype, Vermont! We will see you soon.

We headed down to the river's edge and Dax was itching to take a swim.
We stopped for lunch in the village of Grafton. This quintessential general store is oozing with charm and, more importantly, the people there were friendly and kind. That hasn't been the case in a couple of other general stores we have stopped in. Vermont isn't always so welcoming to us flatlanders, but Grafton made us feel right at home.

Leaf Peeping in Vermont & the Adirondacks
This fall has been an unusual one for our family because we were able to spend a good chunk of time in the mountains while Billy was out of work recovering from surgery. Because of the way the Jewish holidays and Columbus Day fell, the kids were also off of school a few days, giving us a couple of nice long weekends. Usually we cross our fingers and hope for some decent foliage on the weekend we go upstate in the fall. This year, we were actually able to see the peak foliage come and go. And, let me tell you, it comes and goes in a matter of a few days. Which I guess is what makes it so special. Come along on one of our fall rides with us!

Living & Loving Fall
I came across this poem recently and it spoke to me so I thought I would share it here along with a few more foliage pictures. The colors are so beautiful up in the mountains this year and we have gotten to enjoy some gorgeous days.

A Fall Weekend in the Adirondacks
We spent this past weekend in Upstate NY, more because we had to than because we wanted to. There was lots of rain and a possible hurricane in the weather forecast, but we were running out of time to get our boat our of the water for the season. Lately, going away just hasn't been as appealing to me. I am reluctant to be further away from my mom. But, upstate we went, and, surprisingly enough, we were rewarded with a wonderful fall weekend.

A Few Fall Favorites & Finds
Last week, I found myself in Marshalls with the intention of looking at shoes. I was on the hunt for new boots for fall. On the way into the store, I told myself that I should not/would not go near the home stuff because I DO NOT need another throw pillow. Or mug. And yet I somehow ended up at the register with this pillow in my cart. And no boots. I spotted the pillow out of the corner of my eye and it was just so perfect that it had to come home with me. Plus, it cost significantly less than the boots I considered. And throw pillows just make me happier than shoes. I am weird that way. And that very same day, I also brought home yet another mug from Target. I love the "warm and cozy sentiment".

Fall Porches
Hello friends! Today I am sharing a few more pictures from Upstate NY in fall.
First, we will start on the back porch. We added a tree stump as a side table to the rocking chair.

Columbus Day Weekend in the Mountains
Columbus Day weekend in the Adirondacks might just be my very favorite weekend of the year. The leaves were a bit past "peak", but they were still gorgeous. This gazebo is down by the lakefront portion of the town of Schroon Lake, NY.

An Autumn Picnic
On a beautiful fall Saturday in the Adrondacks, Matthew (my 9 year old) and I decided to set out on a picnic. We had picked up this green plaid metal picnic basket at a local sale. It was a bit rusty, but the wooden handles won me over. We brought it home, grabbed a few snacks and headed down our favorite trail.

Autumn in the Adirondacks {2014}
Happy October! Have the leaves started changing where you are? In the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate NY, the leaves were at their peak this past weekend. It was glorious! It never ceases to amaze me how breathtakingly beautiful everything turns this time of year.
