Summer Home Tour

Welcome to our home!

Our home is a work in progress.  Every home we have ever lived in has been a work in progress.  Until it is done.  Then we move.  I guess you can say we are DIY addicts.  We have been in this house for 6 years now and plan to stay here until our 3 boys finish school.  It is a split level with a master bedroom addition.  It was last updated in the 1980s.  This is not our dream house, but it is the house our kids are growing up in so that makes it special.  Little by little, we are re-doing all of the rooms.

We live in a NJ suburb of NYC so home prices are high, and taxes are even higher.  We dream of living someplace more affordable where life moves at a slower pace.

Entering the house through the front door, you arrive at our foyer, where there is always a Golden Retriever or two with a wagging tail to greet you.  Our foyer is painted the same color as the set of the TV show "Modern Family".  Benjamin Moore's Labrador Blue.

Our foyer opens up to our Family Room.  We remodeled this room 2 years ago and you can read about it here.

You are facing our gallery wall when you walk into our family room.  I love how our gallery wall represents our family.  We love spending time in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate NY, boating, reading, and spending time as a family.  All of those things are represented here and it is fun to keep adding to this space.

Another view of the family room.

We carved out some space from our family room to create a small mudroom.  We used some Ikea Bookshelves to do it and you can read about our Ikea Mudroom Hack here.

Next up, is our kitchen that we renovated 4 years ago.  This is where I spend most of my time and it is my favorite area in the house.  We DIY'd all the cabinets, including the installation of our farm sink.

Another project we completed more recently was removing the wall between our kitchen and living room.  We hacked some more Ikea products to create the open shelves.

My kitchen desk area.

Our Master Bathroom is our latest project.  I wrote a post about all the sources we used here.

Our Master Bedroom is our next project that we are in the planning phase of now.  Currently, it looks like this.  Read about our plan here.

Here is a shot of my middle guy's room.

Our outdoor space includes our covered patio area and pool.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Please stop by again soon.  Things are always changing around here!!

  2. I looove your house, it has such a worm family vibe, it's a very comforting place. I really like the windows above your kitchen's sink but in France we sadly don't have windows like that.
congratulations on your hard work, it's obviously worth it.
