Easy Plaid Ornaments & Our Family Room Christmas Tree

It's the most wonderful week of the blogging year!  Jennifer Rizzo's Holiday House Walk is always amazing and it starts today!!  I have been busy decorating our home for the last couple of weeks and I can't wait to share our Holiday Tour on Friday.  Today, I am sharing how I made some plaid ornaments for our family room tree and you just may get a few glimpses of our mantel too!

I wanted a way to affordably add some plaid to this tree.  I found the perfect plaid ribbon for 60% off at Michaels and decided to wrap it around styrofoam balls.  It couldn't be easier. Here's what you'll need:

First, cut the ribbon into strips that fit around your styrofoam ball.

Then simply wrap the ribbon and secure it with a pushpin on the end.  Before adding the last ribbon strip, add a piece of twine tied into a loop to hang it from the tree with.   That's it!

I love how having a bunch of the same ornaments makes our family room tree look a little more cohesive.  This is the tree where the kids display all of their collected ornaments so it can get a bit haphazard looking.

I added one of my boy's lumberjack style hats as a tree topper and I think it adds just the right touch of whimsy to the tree.
I also added a snowy look with some cotton "snow" from Walmart and stuck it in between some of the branches.  The white "snowball" garland is from the Target Dollar Spot.

I hope you'll stop back for my full holiday tour on Friday to see A LOT MORE of our holiday decor!

    1. Thank you!! Yes, the boys love this tree. All of their Hallmark ornaments with sound are on this tree so they are always turning them on. Each of us picks out an ornament the day after Christmas when they are on sale. Fun!

  2. Such a cute idea. I am planning on doing a second tree this year - probably in my dining room. I bought a bunch of plaid and chalkboard things so I am excited to get started on it...of course I have to go volunteer at school today though...always something. Enjoy your week!

    1. Oh, I love collected ornaments too. If we only had one tree, this would be it!! I stuck the snow in there on a whim and I was surprised at how much I liked the way it looked.
