Clear Eyes, Full Hearts (Back to School Entryway)

School starts very soon around these parts so I put together a little "back to school" decor in our entryway.  On the chalkboard (you can read about how we created it here), I wanted to put some sort of an inspiring message for my boys as they head out the door to start a new chapter in their school lives.  I have always loved Coach Taylor's quote from Friday Night Lights.  Did you love that show as much as I did?  I think Tami and Eric Taylor are just about my favorite tv couple of all time.

I added a few school touches to our red bookcase (purchased at Target).  Just a few books and things from around the house, nothing new.

I have always loved this art depicting a boy and his parents on the first day of school by Mary Engelbreit, with the TS Eliot quote "Home is where one starts from".   The first day of school is always stressful around here.  I look forward to the routines being established and (hopefully) everyone comfortable in their classrooms, but it usually takes a couple of weeks to get there.

I used the same method to transfer the quote onto the chalkboard as I have in the past.  I created the words in PicMonkey, enlarge them using Blockposters, and transferred them to the chalkboard by rubbing chalk all over the back and then tracing over the front.  You can find the printable here.  I also traced the outline of the books and then drew the rest of the items freehand.

  1. Oh this is super adorable!! It reminds me of my back to school mantel last year...this year I skipped it because we, unfortunately, have a teacher's strike going on and school hasn't started yet! Such a cute vignette!
