Quite a few of you were wondering where we got the book shelves that now flank the window seat in our Master Bedroom Redo.
Actually, they have been in our house for quite a while. We first purchased them as part of a Broyhill wall unit about 15 years ago. They started out like this...
We loved it for many years. Then came the era of flat screen televisions and the huge armoir no longer served its purpose and it found a new home. The side pieces were painted and added to a kitchen seating area.
Which worked really well for a time. I think it was a year, which in our house is a VERY long time for something to stay in one place. As I was sitting in the kitchen, sketching the plan for the master bedroom, I glanced over at this piece. The original plan was to purchase some Ikea bookshelves and hack yet another built in. See our other Ikea Hacks here and here. I thought there was no way this piece could be the right size…could it?? Well, it was. The exact right size! It was meant to be. My poor husband and son had the delightful job of moving this upstairs. And then it needed to be repainted. Our kitchen is heirloom white and our bedroom trim is pure white. Here it is with its new paint color.
I recovered the no sew bench cushion. This is how it looked in the kitchen.
Now, it is covered in some buffalo check fabric from Ikea. $14 for two yards. I still love the green fabric I had used in the kitchen. I am holding on to it to switch things up in the bedroom in the Spring.
The built ins have provided great storage in our bedroom. In the concealed places, I have enjoyed finally having a place to organize my magazines and some craft supplies. I will be writing a post about that soon. The open shelves on the bottom hold some linens. I have learned that I don't need to hold on to a bunch of linens we never use. I used to have an entire linen closet filled with extra bedding before we removed the closet to make room for our bathtub. This basket has an extra set of sheets. There is also an extra king size quilt and duvet cover.
And now I have a place for my books. I love my books :)
As for our kitchen where we removed this piece from, that is currently what we are working on. Just a small refreshing of a few things.
