Summer Adventures

Halpin covered bridge near Middlebury VT
Hello! Our summer has been going great and I hope yours has too. So far, we have spent a couple of weeks in the mountains and plan to spend a few more before the summer ends. Today I thought I would share a few of the pictures I have taken so far this year. I have talked before (repeatedly) about my love of the loons and I was excited (and lucky) to get this shot on Schroon Lake one afternoon. The call of the loon is definitely one of my favorite sounds.

And here are two more of my favorites- Matthew and Dax at the lake.

There is a Hobie Cat Regatta on Schroon Lake each June and it is so pretty to see the colorful sails on the lake.
A stop at Split Rock Falls just off Rte. 9 in Elizabethtown, NY is always fun. This day was overcast so we were the only ones there. The sound is amazing and standing next to the edge always ignites my fear of heights, but in a good way. It can be a dangerous area for sure.

Billy and I enjoy taking rides in the Jeep after dinner to chase the sunset. Here are a couple of pictures I took along the way.

The Strand is the small movie theatre in the center of town that plays one movie all week at 8pm with a few special events throughout the summer. Just another thing that adds to the charm of Schroon Lake.

We also enjoyed a few more day trips to Vermont. We visited two covered bridges. The first is in Waitsfield and crosses the Mad River.

I love seeing the Adirondacks from Vermont. I think they have the best view.

We enjoy exploring around the backroads of Vermont. You just never know what beautiful view is around the bend.

Family rides in the Jeep with the top and doors off adds to the adventure.
Our oldest boy will be going away to college this fall and oh, my heart!!
I am trying to remain positive but it is downright hard to see him go. I remind myself repeatedly that our job is both to provide roots AND wings. The wings part is just so dang difficult! We are all holding onto him a little tighter this summer.
We are home in NJ this week getting things done. Like college dorm shopping. And we also have our middle son taking driving lessons to get his permit. Time marches on. I hope you have enjoyed a peek of our summer adventures. I am just realizing that I never shared our summer family room so I will try to get that post done this week too. Happy Summer!

  1. Love your pictures Courtney...so glad you are enjoying the summer. I'm from Long Island so we have vacationed in the Adirondacks as well. Beautiful!! Good luck college shopping. I sent my last on off last summer. It was rough but we all survived and grew along with it!! Enjoy

    1. Thanks Beth! It is helpful to hear from other moms about their experiences with college drop off. Aren't the Adirondacks gorgeous? We are always finding new places to explore.

  2. Letting your kids go is the hardest thing in the world! Last year my granddaughter went off to college in your direction, Seton Hall! It seems a half a world away! As much as we would like, we can't stop time. But your summer looked glorious, I love seeing pictures from back east. It is in my soul. Looking for ward to seeing the family room when you get around to it!

    1. Thank you, Sandy! Why do the wings have to be so hard? :)

  5. Beautiful scenery and great fun. Our youngest is a senior in college this year. It's bittersweet. We hate to see them grow up but so proud of the people all three of our kids have become. Love the big smiles your family has on this trip!

  6. I love seeing your pictures of your summer so far. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Your boys are so handsome, and full of life. Love seeing that! Enjoy the rest of your summer, and can't wait to see your family room update! It is hard to see our kids and grandkids grow up...but if we have our job well, they will come back to their roots. I can tell, you are doing your job well!!!!

  7. What a great place to make memories! It reminds me of the small lake we go to each summer here in CA. I know what you mean about letting your kids go. My youngest is off to college this year too. She will be about 4 hours away and I will miss her, but I m also so excited to see where this takes her in life! Thanks for sharing your lovely pictures.

  8. Love love the covered bridges. We have a beautiful one near us here and I just love the history and how pretty they are. Looks like a great time this summer with the boys. Awwww oldest is off to college. It comes before you know it. I agree the wings part is the hardest but just wait and see how they soar. Saying good bye to the first born is the hardest one of all. I promise while heart breaking when you see him soar and carve out a wonderful journey in his life it will all be worth the tears and heartbreak now. Have fun Dorm shopping. Oh how I miss those days.
    Hugs,
    Kris
