Winter Kitchen & Dining Rooms

Pottery Barn quilt pillow covers in farmhouse style kitchen sitting room
This level of our home is bright and welcoming even on the dreariest winter days, which we have had our fair share of lately. I took these pictures on a rare bright and sunny afternoon last week.

We switched out the living and dining areas at the end of the summer and we haven't looked back. This arrangement suits our family so much better and it just feels "right".

I always enjoy bringing out the more neutral accessories after the colors of the holidays and fall. The large grey and white quilted throw pillows with the pinwheel pattern are new finds from Pottery Barn. They were considered holiday items so I was able to get them in clearance.

This little conversation area off the kitchen has become a great spot for the kids to hang out while I am cooking.

The "Dairy" sign on the dining room fireplace is a recent HomeGoods find. They recently opened yet another new HomeGoods in my area which is actually a dangerous thing for my wallet!

I switch between enjoying having my kitchen countertops clean and having all of my kitchen tools at the ready. At this time of year when I cook more, I tend to keep chopping boards and utensils right on the counter. They add a bit of clutter, but they also say that this kitchen is actually used for cooking.

  1. Love, love, love your kitchen and sitting area! I love seeing areas that actually show the room as it is used and not all staged just for a pretty picture. I don't mind all the "stuff" on the counter. It is to me what makes a house a Home! I enjoyed spending time looking at all of your details while enjoying a cup of coffee this morning. Now I feel the need to go to HomeGoods and with fingers crossed hope they have that Dairy sign....Thanks! :o) Have a delightful day!

    1. Thanks so much! I am really trying to share more pictures of our home as it really is so I am glad to know that you enjoy that. I just got the Dairy sign a couple of weeks ago so I hope you can find one too! I have been finding that they are carrying more farmhouse style items lately, so even if you don’t find that exact sign, you will probably find something equally great.

  2. I love the layout of these rooms, Courtney. I would think the seating area gets more use being in that spot because everyone tends to hang out in the kitchen anyway. I love the colors you are using now too. Such a pretty space! Let's hope for more sun!

  3. Beautiful Courtney and what a great idea to switch out the rooms. Now I am sure it is used more. Ahhhhh the sun yeah. We had a day of sunshine this week too. Felt so great to see the sun again. Happy rest of the week.

  4. For several years I have been looking for the 'right' salt pig. One day I'll find it. Our kitchen is very light filled too and the windows were the best decision we made when we renovated!

  10. I love every room in your home, Courtney. I think you have a lot of cute pieces here and there, on the tables and walls yet it isn't too much. Everything relates. My kitchen counters are cluttered, too, but mostly with things I use. I hate digging around in cabinets. Like you said, you use your things. My sister once said I had a "cooks kitchen", but sometimes I feel its a chaotic mess.

Love that you switched the rooms. It works, yay! Wish I had the space to do something like that. As it is, I can't even move furniture around!!! :)

  11. Beautiful! Are you still happy with your pot filler? We're about to install one in our kitchen and I love the one you have, the design of it is beautiful. I've noticed some negative reviews about leaking and the joints becoming loose. Any feedback you have would be wonderful.

    1. Hi Peggy. Yes, I am still very happy with my pot filler and would install the same one again. I use it quite frequently and we have never had any leaks or problems. Hope that helps!
