Comfort Works Custom Slipcover Review

I am so excited for today's post to share our new custom sofa cover from Comfort Works for our Ikea Ekeskog sofa in our family room!  Seriously, it feels like I have gotten a brand new sofa and it has changed the feel of the entire room.

Let's go back a couple of months ago to when we had a dark brown leather sofa in this space.  I appreciated that it was easy to upkeep with 3 kids and 2 dogs, but it didn't ever feel warm and cozy and it wasn't really giving me the look I wanted in this room.  So the leather sofa went into the basement for the kids' space down there and I moved our old Ikea Ekeskog sofa into the family room.  This Ikea sofa has been with us for over 10 years.  When we purchased it for the basement in our last house, I never imagined that it would last this long.  But, this is one comfortable sofa and we have all grown very attached to it.  Even when Ikea discontinued it and we could not longer buy a new slipcover, we still kept it.
About 5 years ago, I purchased an Ikea slipcover that was actually made for the sofa that Ikea replaced the Ekeskog with.  It never fit well, but it sort of gave us the look we wanted.  Looking at the photo below, on the left you can see that it wasn't fitted properly in the back and that always bothered me. So you can imagine how happy I was to find out that Comfort Works makes Ikea slipcovers even for discontinued sofas.  Our new slipcover is neat and fits properly.  Hallelujah!
Comfort Works offers custom sofa covers and replacement slipcovers, not just for Ikea sofas but for other brands as well.  They make it so easy to get a professional looking, high quality slipcover without even leaving home.  The first step was ordering fabric samples so I could feel the fabrics and see them in my room.  Because our household consists of 3 growing boys and 2 dogs, I knew I needed a durable fabric that could withstand a lot of washing. Felicia at Comfort Works recommended their Herringbone fabrics for how sturdy they are.  After some serious debate (I was also considering the Liege Biscuit fabric), we decided on the Ivory Herringbone fabric.  Our sweet pup, Dax approved the fabrics for comfort too.
I couldn't wait to put it on our sofa when it arrived.  It came well packaged in its own bag.
I removed the old slipcover and got started with putting on the new one.  Because I washed our old slipcover quite frequently,  I am very familiar with this process. Through the years, I have learned that I prefer slipcovers because I know my sofa is staying very clean by washing it in the machine.  With kids and dogs, slipcovered sofas are definitely the way to go in my opinion.
I was very happy with how snuggly the cushion covers fit, giving the aging cushions more structure.  I also appreciate that each cover is labeled to make placing the cover much easier.  Our old slipcover wasn't labeled and it was always a challenge to figure out what went where.
I had the new slipcover on in a matter of minutes.
It looks like a whole new sofa!  But even better, it is still as comfortable as ever.  I couldn't wait to put on my throw pillows and Comfort Works was kind enough to send me 3 pillow covers as well.  They also offer a collection of pillow covers on their website.
The two Comfort Works throw pillows on the plaid chairs match the slipcover to tie everything together nicely.  I love custom touches like that!
I especially like how much more structured it looks, from the front as well as the back.  It really does feel like a new piece of furniture.
As usual, my family wasted no time in breaking in the new slipcovers.
Everyone approves!
Thank you, Comfort Works, for breathing life back into our old Ikea sofa!
Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post.  Comfort Works provided me with one slipcover in exchange for my honest review.  As always, all opinions are my own.

  1. I cannot believe how perfectly the slipcover fits your sofa! Honestly it makes it look like you bought a new piece of furniture! I am definitely checking them out because I have been thinking about changing things in my family room for awhile but don't have the heart to get rid of "Rosie's chair" even though I am tired of the print on the fabric. I am crossing my fingers that Comfort Works has something that will fit that chair. That would totally solve my problem! Your room looks so inviting. I love how you showed so many different angles in this post. I can really get a feel of how cozy that space is. And of course I love seeing those doggies!

    1. Hi Shelley,

Comfort Works was great to work with and I definitely think a slipcover is the way to go if you want to change “Rosie’s chair”. She always looks so comfy in it in your pictures.

  3. Ok, so I stumbled across your blog AND I LOVE IT! I have so many questions - but can I please start with asking where your gorgeous aztec style cushions and those lamps are from? Everything is so so gorgeous! B

    1. Hello and thank you!! I am so glad you stumbled across my blog too :) The aztec cushions are from Pottery Barn. They are the Bennet Kilim pillow covers. The lamps are from Target, but they are a few years old. I am not sure if they currently have anything similar.

  4. Looks great!! I love my slipcovered sofa from Ethan Allen - it's such a pleasure to know I can machine wash the entire thing any time I need to! And when my little Monkey came in covered in mud and snuggled up on the sofa last week, that was the reason I didn't even raise my voice! :)

  5. Courtney....your slip cover looks beautiful. They smooth and soft looking. Is Comfort Works part of Ikea? I have not washed my slip cover yet...any tips?

Your dogs are so pretty and the little guy is growing by leaps and bounds. So cool to know you let them get comfy on furniture. I do with my dogs, I love them and want them to be cozy and part of the family!! :)

    1. Hi Jane,

Oh yes, our pups are definitely a part of the family and this sofa is their favorite place to nap during the day. They have a very comfortable life, as I know yours do too! :) I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Comfort Works is a separate company from Ikea. They also do custom slipcovers for non-Ikea furniture.

As for washing your slipcover, my only advice is to put it on while it is still slightly damp. That makes it easier to fit it on.
