Nautical Summer Mantel

Are you excited for the unofficial start to summer?  We are expecting a cool, rainy Memorial Day weekend here in NJ.  The only good thing about that is our pool is still a mud hole and I won't need to listen to my kids complain about not being able to swim.  As for our pool, we did finally get the estimate and it is not as bad as we thought it would be.  So hopefully we will be swimming soon!...

I decided to work on a summer mantel this week.  I have been on the hunt for a decorative sailboat that didn't cost a fortune, and I finally found one at the Christmas Tree Shop yesterday.  I couldn't get that boat in my cart fast enough.  It doesn't fit on top of our mantel, but I like the way it fills the space in front of the firebox for the summer.  The wooden anchor, driftwood flag, and rope wrapped jar all came from there as well.

In other news around the house, our lilacs are finally blooming and they are beautiful and smell amazing!

And finally, I baked this lemon meringue pie.  Want to know how it tasted?

You'd have to ask our dog, Keeper.   She ate it off the counter where it was cooling when I left the house for 10 minutes to pick up at school.

I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!!
