Our Christmas Kitchen 2019

Hello friends. Today, I am excited to share one of my favorite rooms to decorate for the holidays - our Christmas kitchen!
The old vintage sled is flying over the island once again. It's becoming a tradition for us at this point and I think we'd probably miss it if we didn't have it up there. I decided to go with a Gingerbread/Baking theme this year. I enjoy baking throughout the holiday season and it brings back memories of baking with my mom and grandmother. Like so many of you, we still use the same recipes each year that I did back then and I love passing that tradition down to my kids.

Many of the items I used in here came from the Target Dollar Spot. They had such adorable things this year! The little houses that are displayed in the windows might be my favorite items from there this year. I attached a "Mrs. Claus Baking" sign to the back of our metal bread box for the holiday season. The front of the breadbox has pumpkins on it, but I figured why not turn it around and get 2 seasons out of it!
The curtains are tea towels with a peppermint print, also from the Dollar Spot! They even have a little pom pom detail along the bottom that I love. It's all about the little things. And not breaking the bank.

To decorate the sleigh, I began with the most adorable gingerbread house that I found at Hobby Lobby. It's made of styrofoam so it isn't that heavy. I always worry a little bit about things falling off the sled, although fortunately that hasn't happened. Yet, anyway.  I live in a house full of young men so anything is possible.
I also added a gingerbread man baking pan another sign from the Dollar Spot and some red and white jingle bell garland from Hobby Lobby.
Over the range on the mantel, I displayed this lovely hand-painted sign from Jenna at White Pine Print. I love the simplicity that this sign brings to my Christmas decor. She has many fabulous signs in her Etsy shop and I definitely recommend you check it out if you are planning your holiday decor.

It wouldn't be Christmas in our house without our small kitchen tree. Every year I add another kitchen themed ornament.
I love shopping for the small decorative items for my kitchen all year round. I have built quite a collection through the years and it's fun to come up with new ways to display them each year.
I've been enjoying the most amazing soy based candles from a small candle company in the midwest called Cultivated Candle Company. This vintage white hen is filled with their Peppermint Marshmallow candle and I love how unique it is - they fill lots of vintage items like cans and jars with their candle wax - such a unique gift idea too! I'll have a fun new piece to add to my kitchen collection after the candle is done burning, or I can send it to them to get re-filled.
Our Christmas kitchen is one of the busiest spots in our home during the holidays. I enjoy listening to holiday music with a yummy candle burning while we enjoy all the holiday activities that seemingly revolve around our kitchen island - baking, cooking, wrapping presents - everything happens right here. Do you decorate your kitchen for Christmas too? Thanks for stopping by today. I'm not participating in any big holiday home tours this year - I decided to share things at my own pace, room by room. One big tour can feel overwhelming to me and there's already enough of that during this busy season, especially this year. Tomorrow, I'll be sharing our living room. I hope you'll be back to see what else I've been up to!

    1. Thanks Jenn! My glasses are from Pottery Barn. They are a recycled glass. They don't seem to have the exact same glasses anymore but they do have similar.

  9. You seriously make me feel like the biggest slacker!! I have been cutting down my holiday decor every year, but this makes me want to kick it up a notch or twelve! The past few years I'm just sticking with lit trees all over the house, and then the 'big' tree that gets the bazillion ornaments...it feels like enough when I'm done with all that yet this makes me want to go back to the way I used to do things, with a theme in each room! Gorgeous, as always, my friend xo

  27. I love these ideas, especially the Christmas Wreath — how creative and cute! What color are your kitchen cabinets and island? It looks so great with all of your decor. I'm having my kitchen cabinets redone by a local cabinet refinisher in a few weeks, and I'm still debating on choosing a color. I'd love to go with a color similar to yours!

    1. Hi Sarah! Our cabinets are over 10 years old and came painted this way from the factory so I don't have an exact paint color for you. I think they are best described as a warm, creamy white color. I've been very happy with them. I think they are easier to keep clean than a bright stark white would be. Hope that helps!

  30. I am just now seeing this for the first time. I have to ask about the sled, which I LOVE. Do you leave it up all year and if not, what do you put there instead the rest of the year?
