Heading Towards Graduation

My oldest son turns 18 this week and will be graduating in a few short weeks. Yikes! Where has the time gone? I am increasingly aware that my parenting days aren't over yet. In fact, it seems like these are some of the most crucial parenting days we will experience. I wrote a post sponsored by She Knows and Anheuser-Busch on SheKnows.com about talking to our kids about drinking that you can find here. Especially since we are heading into the prom/graduation season, it is such an important topic. The post links to some fantastic resources from Anheuser-Busch Family Talk About Drinking to help get the conversation started with your own kids, for every age and stage.
Mother's Day 2016

Parenting is hard, which makes Mother's Day such an important day. At least that is what I tell my boys so they will pamper me. :) I had a lovely day on Sunday. My guys gave me some great gifts- a pool float, a new edition of our family's favorite board game (Ticket to Ride) and a book of poems. They know me well. I can't wait for the warm weather to arrive so we can open the pool and I can try out that new float. We also enjoyed brunch at my brother and sister-in-law's house. I brought bottles of wine for the moms at the brunch and I dressed them up with some tissue paper flowers that my son and I made. These are so easy to make. Tutorial here.
After brunch, we had a low key afternoon, hanging out home together with the pups. The sun was (finally) shining. It was a good day but over too soon. I think it should be changed to Mother's Week.
Now that the warmer weather is hopefully here to stay, I am excited to get outside and plant some flowers this week. I also plan to share some pictures of a town on the shores of Lake Champlain that I fell in love with when we were away for Spring Break. And we planked another (small) wall that I can't wait to photograph and blog about too. I hope your week is off to a great start!

  2. You certainly have lots of "boys" in your household. I had three daughters so have had to learn about boys from the grandsons. There is a real difference!

It just seems like yesterday when we had prom, homecomings and graduations with our two girls. Even the college years go quick. Enjoy every minute.

  6. So glad you had a lovely Mother's Day. These days seems like they fly by in an instant. My own nephew is a junior in High School soon to be a senior. My sister sent me pictures of him in his tux going to his junior prom and I was in tears thinking wow, no more baby! Hoping the weather continues to improve here and get warmer. Kisses to the pups!

  9. Courtney, what handsome guys - all of them! Those talks on drinking (and drugs) - so important. I'm happy to see you take a stand on that front. It's so hard navigating kids from children to adulthood. Mothering in those years, I think, are the hardest (at least so far, and mine are now 31 and 28). Have fun playing in the dirt. I need to figure out my containers for this summer and get busy also.
