Spring Home Tour

Happy Spring!  Is there anything better than opening your windows on those first few warm days in early spring?  You can just smell the freshness filling the house as it pushes out all of the winter stuffiness.  For today's Farmhouse Friday, some of my favorite bloggers and I are teaming up with Country Living to share our Spring home tours.  Please be sure to check out the links to other beautiful homes at the end of this post for tons more inspiration for adding spring touches to your home.

Let's get started in our front entryway.  If this is your first time here, we live in a NJ suburb of NYC in a 1950's split level home.  We love farmhouse style, and although our suburban house isn't actually a farmhouse, we have created a space that feels like home to our busy family, which includes 3 boys and 2 dogs.

I kept our DIY chalkboard simple, with just the word "welcome" and a preserved boxwood wreath.  I also added the oval chalkboard sign (a Target Dollar Spot find) with the year we were married.

Let's head up to our kitchen, dining and living room area.  We enjoy the open floor plan in this space.

For curtains, I used a couple of kitchen towels from Target with black and white farm animals to add a farmhouse vibe to our kitchen windows.

We added a new rug to our family room recently.  It was 70% off at Target and involved a ride home in our convertible with a big rug sticking out of it.  I will be sure to blog about that soon!
Here are a few more of the spring touches I added to our home that I shared in other recent posts:

  7. I grew up in a split level in the suburbs of Cleveland and am familiar with the layout of your home. I can't believe how beautifully you have updated your home. Your main level is absolutely gorgeous Taking down the wall that separated the living room and kitchen and adding the island makes all the difference. Your decor is so cute too. Great job.

    1. Thanks Joanie! A split level would never have been my first choice in choosing a home, but it was the best way for us to get the square footage we needed for our family affordably. We live just outside of NYC so home prices are $$. Yes, taking down the walls on the main level made a huge difference! Thanks so much for stopping by today.

I've never been a fan of split levels but you've totally made me love them now! Your house just seems to flow so well! I loved seeing all the bright splashes of the Pioneer Woman line throughout your home =) Oh, I also can't believe how big the puppy is getting! He's adorable! I'm a mom to two boys and 3 dogs! Two labs and pit bull mix! So I looove seeing your dogs in the pics! Dogs make a house a home in my opinion ;) Have a great day! -Jen

    1. Hi Jen, Thanks so much for your fabulous comment!! It made my day. Split levels were never my favorite either, but we have definitely made this house into a home we are proud of and suits us well. Yes, good eye!, I bought a bunch of Pioneer Woman linens and dishes on a recent trip to Walmart. I love all of her bright colors and their collected feel. I couldn't agree more with what you said about dogs making a house a home. You have a great day too!
