Our Newly Planked Gallery Wall

I am so excited about how our new planked wall has turned out in our family room!  Every once in a while, I get an idea of what I hope something will look like in my head, and then cross my fingers that it turns out well.  It doesn't always end up as well as I plan.  Does that happen to you too?  But this was one of those projects that turned out better than I pictured.

We used thin 1/8inch MDF, which we ripped down into 6 inch strips to create the wall (tutorial coming soon!).  It was so much easier than we thought it would be (and cheaper thanks to the MDF) and I love the cottage-y, rustic feel it adds.

It's a bit early for Christmas decor, but I knew I wanted to create a winter themed gallery wall.  This winter theme should take us past the Christmas season.

Our family loves spending time in the snow in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate NY and this wall reflects that.

Finally, I thought it might be helpful to list many of the sources used.  Many of the elements have been collected over time, but some are recent purchases.

And now I am super excited to decorate the rest of this room for Christmas!

  5. I love this look! I get really nervous about hanging lots of things on the walls, but I'd love to try something like this. Do you use command hooks or something temporary, if so, do they truly hold up ok?? Super pretty, love your style so much!

    1. Hi Laura, Thank you!! I do use a lot of command products to hang stuff on our walls as long as it isn't too heavy. I used it for almost everything on this wall except the deer head and the sled because they are heavier. I like to have the option to change stuff around..which I obviously do quite often ;) We never let a small hole in the wall stop us from giving our house some extra warmth and personality. There is always spackle and touch up paint!
