This Old House Magazine

Last fall, Billy and I breathed a sigh of relief when the photo shoot of our Master Bath for Kitchen & Bath Makeovers was over.  Clearly, for us, being in a magazine was a once in a lifetime kind of thing.

A few days later, I received an e-mail from This Old House Magazine asking if we'd like to be included in an article for their magazine including blogger projects.  Ummm, we most certainly would!!  This time around, the pressure felt so much lessened because we would be submitting our own pics.

I was an odd different sort of kid.  My love of houses started very early and I spent hours rearranging the furniture and changing the wallpaper in my doll house.  I loved the show "This Old House" and taped it on the VCR (remember those?) in my bedroom every week.  I loved following along as Bob Vila transformed homes.  There was no HGTV in those days.  I learned to love houses from "This Old House" and dreamed of transforming my own old home someday.  My dream house would be at least 100 years old.  It would be a colonial with a wrap around front porch.  And I'd marry a guy like Bob Vila.

Well, I did end up marrying someone who loves working on a home as much as I do.  Billy doesn't have a beard, but he does wear a lot of flannel.  My own version of Bob Vila.  None of our homes have been over 100 years old- yet.  Living in Northern NJ, those gorgeous, older homes in towns with good schools are out of our budget.  However, we have found ways to add charm to a cape cod starter, a ranch and a split level.  None of those styles of houses would be our first choice, and yet we have made a home we were proud of in all of them.  And we got to be in This Old House magazine!

Our kitchen bookshelf storage island is in the March issue.  We have been on the lookout for the magazine for about a week after downloading the digital copy.  Billy found it in Lowes this weekend and it was quite a thrill for our family!  The lady checking him out looked at him funny for buying multiple copies :)

Thank you so much for including us in an article with such talented bloggers, This Old House magazine.  You have given this DIY family something to smile about.

  4. Courtney, congratulations to you and Billy! That must be the most incredible feeling to have your projects featured in the magazine for the show you loved as a kid! I also used to watch in wonder at This Old House (LOVED Norm Abram!) and The New Yankee Workshop (I guess I had a thing for Norm Abram, even though he's *considerably* older than me!), I'd DIE if my home or project was featured in that magazine. Yay for you both!

  5. I bought the March issue in the airport yesterday! I was flying alone when I spotted you guys and I had no one to show! I almost showed it to the elderly lady sitting next to me, but I resisted the urge. Anyway, I was super-excited for you guys!
