Our Faux Fireplace

Several years ago, I saw a picture of a faux fireplace on the internet and I just had to add one to our dining room.  I have always loved how a fireplace can warm up a dining room...

We started with an unfinished mantel we purchased at Lowes.

We then pieced together a variety of mouldings until we were happy with the look.

We then painted the whole thing in white.  We first painted the back of the fireplace with chalk paint.

It has been fun decorating this mantle with the seasons.  Here it is in Autumn with a piece of brick paneling from Lowes.

Our latest transformation was adding some stacked wood pieces.  This has been my favorite look so far.    We have now turned this space into more of a sitting room after removing the wall between our kitchen and dining room.  We found that we didn't use the formal dining room enough and a place to "hang out" suited our family better.  Here it is last Christmas...

It is amazing how much warmth and interest a faux fireplace can add to a room!!

  3. This is PERFECT! What were the final dimensions? We are having a hard time decided how big we should build one. Compared to your tree.. this looks like the perfect size!
