I love how my dark brown leather sofa wears. Kid spills something on it? Wipe it right up! Dog jumps on the sofa? Dog hair is wiped or vacuumed with ease. What I don't love is how dark it makes my room feel. I would love to have a Pottery Barn slipcovered sofa (or even an Ikea knock-off). Like this....(sigh)
But these boys and dogs are probably going to stick around a while, so I try to come up with washable ways to lighten up the look of the sofa we are sticking with for the foreseeable future. My first tip is throw pillows. I might have a slight throw pillow obsession. They are affordable and fun to change with the seasons. The other main element to lightening the look is adding a throw. This one happens to be a twin size quilt purchased at TJ Maxx. I love how cozy it makes the room feel.
The other thing to take into consideration is the other elements in the room. My walls are a light tan and the rug is also light colored. Those elements go a long way in lightening the overall feel.
Next, I plan to lighten the back of those bookshelves behind the sofa with some fabric covered foam board. Stay tuned!!
